Lolita Lisovskaya Wins 2007 Iowa Piano Competition
Sioux City (IA) – March 10, 2007 – Twenty-seven-year-old Parkville, MO resident and Uzbekistan native Lolita Lisovskaya was named the winner of the 2007 Iowa Piano Competition Saturday evening in front of an appreciative Symphony crowd at the Orpheum Theatre in Sioux City, Iowa.

The win came at the conclusion of a Sioux City Symphony concert that featured performances by the final three competitors in the event. The three, Lisovskaya, second-place winner Grace Eunhae Kim and third-place winner Stephanie Wu, each performed movements from Mozart and Beethoven concertos with the orchestra on the first half of the concert. Following intermission and a brief second half, the three were brought back on stage for the award presentation.

Ranging in age from 20 to 34, five finalists arrived in Sioux City Wednesday for a three-day competition that involved a recital, a chamber performance with Kia-Hui Tan and William Conable from Ohio State, and the concerto performance for the three finalists. After the first round on Thursday, the five competitors were assigned their repertoire for the second round. Each then performed a piano trio in a Friday evening concert. At the end of that concert, Lisovskaya, Kim, and Wu were named as the three finalists.

Lisovskaya's performance of the first movement from Mozart’s Concerto no. 22 K. 482 in E-flat Major earned her $7,500, while Kim took home a check for $2,500 and Wu received $1,500. The fourth and fifth place winners also took home awards: Cathal Breslin, fourth place and $1,000; and I-Hsuan Cheng, fifth place and $750.

The panel of judges which oversaw all three days of the competition included: Karen Shaw of Indiana University, Alvin Chow of Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and Enrico Elisi of the University of Nevada – Las Vegas.

The 2008 Iowa Piano Competition will be held March 6-8, 2008 in Sioux City. Application forms will be available May 1, 2007 and entries will be accepted through October 31, 2007.
