About the Iowa Piano Competition
The Iowa Piano Competition is an intensive three-day competition hosted by the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra in Sioux City, Iowa. The 2009 Competition will be held March 5 – 7, 2009. Twelve pianists from all entries received will be selected by jury to compete in the Competition.

The competition consists of three rounds:
Day One – each of the twelve competitors will present a 30-minute solo recital of their own choosing. Six semi-finalists will be announced that night.
Day Two – each of the semi-finalists will rehearse a movement from a piano quintet with local musicians in preparation for an evening performance open to the public. Three finalists will be announced following the performance.
Day Three – each of the finalists will rehearse a movement from selected piano concerti with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra in preparation for a performance that evening. At the conclusion of the performance, the Iowa Piano Competition winner will be announced.

Hotel accommodations Wednesday, March 4, through Sunday, March 8, 2009 will be provided for all twelve competitors. Ground transportation to and from the hotel and performance and rehearsal spaces and some meals will also be provided. Additionally, all twelve competitors will receive a $250 stipend towards travel expenses.

AWARDS
The 2008 competition will offer $14,000 in prize money, including: $7,500 first; $2,750 second; $1,500 third; $1,000 fourth; $750 fifth; $500 sixth.

ELIGIBILITY
The Iowa Piano Competition is open to pianists of all nationalities between the ages of 18 and 35 (up to and including those that are 35) at the time of the competition. A photocopy of the entrant’s birth certificate or equivalent proof of age must be submitted with the entry form. All competitors must be available by 4 pm Wednesday, March 4, 2009, through Sunday, March 8, 2009.
